Difficult Days

Although currently working from home for most of the time, I’ve been into a meeting at work today. It was not a happy meeting and I now have to  manage a process which is going to make a number of people unhappy.  So far, it’s been a difficult day. Whether work-related or for another reason, we all have them…
“Today was a Difficult Day,” said Pooh.
There was a pause.
“Do you want to talk about it?” asked Piglet.
“No,” said Pooh after a bit. “No, I don’t think I do.”
“That’s okay,” said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend.
“What are you doing?” asked Pooh.
“Nothing, really,” said Piglet. “Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don’t feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either.
“But goodness,” continued Piglet, “Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you’ve got someone there for you. And I’ll always be here for you, Pooh.”
And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs…he thought that his best friend had never been more right.”  (A.A. Milne)
I hope you have someone to sit beside you on your difficult days

  1. My sister used to work in HR and I remember she had some very Dark Days, especially when dealing with staff who were being made redundant. I think Piglet is very wise with his words to Pooh and I’m thankful for my own Piglet, at the end of the phone. Sending virtual hugs x

  2. What a touching post! My sister used to work in HR and I remember she had some very Dark Days, especially when dealing with people who were being made redundant. I have a wonderful Piglet but she is at the end of the phone, at the moment. I’m sending virtual hugs… Piglet was being very wise, wasn’t he?.

    • A very wise Piglet, June. My colleague, the Health & Safety Advisor, has been a brilliant friend to me. She is a lot younger than me and, in Covid terms, somewhat less at risk so she has been soending half her time in the office. She has copied/scanned/emailed all manner of documents, found out info and posted out letters that I’ve sent on to her. We’ve worked really closely together to effect a good service through the crisis. HR can be such a great job, but like your sister, I’ve known some very dark days too. HR often doesn’t get good press, and they call me “The headmistress” but I think that find me fair and ok to deal with!

  3. I’m so sorry to read that you’ve had a Difficult Day. I’m glad your colleague is there to sit beside you on work-related Difficult Days and family and friends for other, more personal Difficult Days. (((HUGS)))

    • I am very blessed with friends of all kinds, Margaret, and never forget how lucky I am. I mostly like working in HR, but it does have its downside…..like now.

    • Fortunately I have a great colleague who is the H&S advisor and we work closely together. We are each other’s sounding boards, and friend to sit beside. I’m very much a Pooh fan too, Jean.
