In which I get nominated – The Sunshine Blogger Awards

Surprised and flattered – that’s how I felt when I received a nomination for a Sunshine Blogger award which is about peer recognition for bloggers that inspire positivity and joy!  Thanks to June at

Here are the rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the questions given by the blogger who nominated you.
  3. Nominate other blogs for the award and ask them some questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award Logo on your blog.

June’s questions for me (and my answers in blue):

  1. How did you come up with the name of your blog?  In short, it relates to a friend asking me what it was like being sixty. I pointed to myself and said, “Like this.” A longer explanation appeared in my very first blog post:
  2. Why did you start blogging? I’d started reading a few blogs that interested me and thought I’d like to give it a go myself
  3. What do you like most about blogging? I love writing and it’s an outlet for that. I could write in a book (and often do) but I enjoy sharing it and reading the responses.
  4. Do you have any advice for new bloggers? Read and comment on other blogs. I’ve built up my followers and respondents from people who have blogs that I read, so much so that I have made ‘blog friends’ and have even met up with one fellow blogger when I was in her neck of the woods. It was great and we have an on-going friendship.
  5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? That is a really hard question to answer because it depends on my mood and there are so many places I already like, and others that I’d like to see. I love Dun Laoghaire in Ireland, and never tire of being there.  For somewhere I’ve never been I’d have to say Japan but I hate even short flights and couldn’t bring myself to fly long-haul. Best place in the world – home!
  6. Dogs or cats? Both, so long as they are gentle.
  7. Tea or Coffee? Coffee every time; I can’t stand even the smell of tea.
  8. What does your family think about your blogging habit? Bemused would be the best description, I think.

My nominees are:

  1. Margaret at
  2. Jules at
  3. Joy at
  4. Sheila at

My questions for the nominees are:

  1. Why do you blog?
  2. Do you read many other blogs and what do you enjoy about this as an activity?
  3. Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
  4. If time-travel was a possibility, what period in history would you like to visit?
  5. What is you favourite meal?
  6. How would you spend an unexpected windfall of £50,000 (you can’t save it)?
  7. Is there a hobby that you’d like to take up if time and cost were not relevant?

  1. Thank you so much, Eloise, I’m absolutely delighted to be nominated, although I don’t really know much about how to ‘work’ my blog, i.e. I can’t figure out (sorry, Americanism!) how to put a place on the home page where readers can subscribe.
I will shortly have a go at those questions, please let me know if I don’t do all the things I’m meant to do with this little bit of fun!

    • I’d never worked with WordPress before creating my blog and I cried with frustration at times as I was setting it up! Through trial and error I did manage but it took me ages to work through the supposedly ‘simple’ process. There are things I'[d like to do but I’m afraid to experiment in case I lose the lot!

      • Yes, I’m also afraid to ‘touch’ anything in case I mess things up and and it has cost me a small fortune in the past to get my blog sorted out, so I don’t want to mess it up! I will answer the questions in due course … do I do it on your blog? I never know what to do with questions such as this. I tell you, I might’ve been writing my blog for almost three years, but I’m a novice when it comes to sorting anything out like this!

      • The idea is that you mention on your own blog that you have been nominated and answer them on there. Then (if you want to) you can nominate others and make up a set of questions for them. Really, don’t feel pressured into doing it. I think it’s just a way of spreading the word on other blogs that might interest ones existing readers.

  2. I enjoyed reading the answers to my questions and I am now going to have a look at the blogs you nominated. After all, this is what it is all about, discovering new blogs.
